## Math + Bathrooms

A quick post while on vacation. Look what I found in a mens room in Frankfurt’s airport–a beautiful sequence of double parabolas. Math is everywhere!

Nice picture! The only problem is that these would be hyperbolas. You can see that they are hyperbola because of their asymptotes. The light exiting the lamps forms a cone, so you get all the conic sections depending on how it hits the wall.

The wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbola has a similar picture of a downlight.
